PRESS RELEASE
Daily Mirror Expose Shows Real Security Threat of Nuclear Waste
For immediate release: 21 July 2006
The Daily Mirror’s expose of the lack of security at Stonebridge
Park railway depot, shows the real security threat that the nuclear industry
represents.
With trains carrying nuclear waste sitting in the depot for hours at
a time, surrounded by houses, schools and a hospital, the potential for
a terrorist act, or an accident, to kill thousands of people is ever-present.
If a Daily Mirror reporter can walk up to the train that easily, then
anyone could.
Chair of CND, Kate Hudson, said
“this is another nail in the coffin of the arguments for nuclear
power. Nuclear trains travelling from Dungeness to Hunterston are a threat
to communities the length of the country. This is a further exposure of
the lie that nuclear power is clean and safe. The government must turn
back from a new generation of nuclear power stations.”
