CND supports blockade at Aldermaston Atomic Weapons Establishment, demands
halt to work
For immediate release: 6 July 2006
As part of its ongoing campaign to prevent the replacement of Trident,
Britain’s nuclear weapons system, the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament
today announced its support for the upcoming Block the Builders action,
scheduled to take place at the gates of the Aldermaston Atomic Weapons
Establishment on Monday 10 July at 7 am. The blockade comes as building
work continues at Aldermaston on the £100 million ORION laser facility
and other facilities which are likely being built in preparation for the
construction of a new generation of nuclear weapons. CND Chair Kate Hudson
will be present at the blockade.
Kate Hudson, Chair of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, said, “The government
has promised us a full debate on Trident Replacement but there
is every indication - given the level of investment and development
taking place at Aldermaston - that a decision has already been taken behind
closed doors. We demand a halt to all building work at Aldermaston until
a democratic decision has been taken on the future of Britain's nuclear
weapons system."
