Company membership explained

Each year at Conference and the AGM, CND members are invited to vote for the people who they think should run the Campaign. The 80 people elected to run CND are known as CND Council. In our membership magazine we let you know when Conference is, how you can get involved in it and what decisions were made. During the 12 months between conferences, CND Council manages the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament.

Members of Council, as legal custodians of the organisation, are liable for the activities of the Campaign. If CND were ever to cease to exist then Council members would be financially liable to any outstanding creditors were it not for the protection of being a limited company. It doesn't affect campaigning work but it means that any debts incurred by CND are limited and cannot become a personal liability to members of Council, if they have acted correctly.

Now that CND is a company limited by guarantee, supporters who wish to participate in the democratic processes of CND need to be company members. For example, if you wish to attend and vote at Conference, the AGM or Council, or to put resolutions to Conference, you will need to be a company member. Also, if your group participates in Conference, your company membership affects the number of votes they hold.

It's very easy to become a company member; all you need to do is fill in the form below. You will remain a member of the company for as long as you remain an ordinary member of CND. There is no cost and you can join at any time. The only obligation is that if CND were to be wound up then you may be asked to contribute a maximum of £1.

But you don't need to be a member of the company in order to support CND; you are helping us just by being an ordinary member and giving us your support, time and donations.

Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament is a company limited by guarantee registered in England and Wales no 3533653.
