23 February 2007: for immediate release

The Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, along with the Stop the War Coalition and the British Muslim Initiative, will hold a national demonstration in London tomorrow, Saturday 24th February, to call for ‘No Trident’ and ‘Troops out of Iraq’.

Tomorrow’s demonstration is expected to be Britain’s largest anti-nuclear demonstration in decades. Tens of thousands of people from around the UK will converge on Speakers’ Corner (Hyde Park) at 12 noon. A march will set off from Speakers’ Corner at 1 pm. The march will go through Hyde Park Corner and Piccadilly Circus before ending in Trafalgar Square. A rally, featuring speakers and musical performances, is scheduled to begin in Trafalgar Square at 2:30 pm.

The demonstration’s call for ‘No Trident’ comes less than a month before parliament is likely to debate and vote on whether or not Britain will build a new generation of nuclear weapons to replace Trident.

Many representatives from CND and the wider peace / anti-war movement will be available for interview before, during and after the demonstration. Please contact Rick Wayman, CND’s Press & Communications Officer, on 07968 420 859 for interviews with any of the following people:
