19 September 2005: for immediate release
March for Peace and Liberty
Stop the Bombings, Stop the War, Bring the Troops Home
Defend Civil Liberties, Defend the Muslim Community
The Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND), Stop the War Coalition and
the Muslim Association of Britain (MAB) are holding a joint press conference
on Tuesday 20th September to announce the March for Peace and Liberty
taking place this Saturday. Full details of the demonstration and route
will be discussed.
Speaking at the press conference will be representatives from the Campaign
for Nuclear Disarmament (CND), Stop the War Coalition and the Muslim Association
of Britain (MAB). Brian Eno will also be present, and will speak for the
70 signatories of a letter to Tony Blair which was delivered to No 10
last week*.
Kate Hudson, Chair of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, who will
be speaking at the press conference said,
“The march for peace and liberty on September 24th will show Tony
Blair that we are united in rejecting his war mongering policies abroad
and attacks on civil liberties at home. Blair refuses to acknowledge that
the terrible attacks on London in July were related to UK foreign policy.
Instead he continues down the path of war and occupation. War is not the
answer. Terrorism and violence, whether perpetrated by state or non-state
actors do not solve the world’s complex problems. September 24th
is our opportunity to demonstrate how dangerously out of touch government
policy is with public opinion. We march to Stop the Bombings, Stop the
War, Bring the Troops Home, Defend Civil Liberties and Defend the Muslim
Community.”
The demonstration is jointly organised by the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament,
Stop the War Coalition and the Muslim Association of Britain
-end-
