According to the United Nations, Israel allows less than infertility coverage in seattle a quarter of the humanitarian aid that is needed into Gaza. Small wonder then that aid conveys are organised and people seek ways to bring essential goods into that blockaded strip of land. Last night I heard news that the flotilla of ships carrying aid was surrounded by Israeli war ships - while in international waters. This morning I awoke to a text informing me that infertility coverage in seattle at least ten unarmed civilians had been killed after Israeli troops entered one of the ships. This atrocity must be infertility coverage in seattle protested in the strongest possible terms. The European Union has rightly called for an Inquiry. Our government must take immediate steps, not only to ensure the infertility coverage in seattle security of the flotilla and the safe arrival of the aid, but also to bring the Israeli authorities to justice. Such atrocities cannot go unchallenged. Please join me today - Bank Holiday Monday - outside Downing Street at 2pm, to infertility coverage in seattle urge our government to bring pressure to bear on Israel before more lives are lost.

Earlier this week, the new government stated: 'We will immediately play a infertility coverage in seattle strong role in the nuclear non-proliferation treaty review conference and press for continued progress on multilateral disarmament.' That conference is infertility coverage in seattle ongoing in New York. Foreign Office civil servants have been out there for two weeks now, waiting for the new government line. So what is the definition of 'immediately'? How about these: 'without lapse of time; without delay; instantly; at once'. Well clearly the infertility coverage in seattle new government is redefining the term, because there is still no government presence at the NPT review conference. Yesterday we heard that Mr Hague - the new Foreign Secretary and therefore the minister responsible for non-proliferation - is going to the States to meet Mrs Clinton today. We assumed therefore that infertility coverage in seattle he would be going to the review conference whilst there. After all, the conference has been on for two weeks and Britain hasn't yet made a infertility coverage in seattle statement - all other nuclear weapons states did so at the beginning of last week. But no, according to infertility coverage in seattle the Foreign Office, Mr Hague will not be calling in. Just to make sure, we have asked the FCO Press Office again today for infertility coverage in seattle an update, and they say they have no firm plans yet on NPT attendance as they are still appointing the final junior ministers and perhaps they will have an idea if we phone back next week. They will probably be sending ‘a minister’ but not necessarily the Foreign Secretary. So in what sense is that 'immediate' or 'strong'?? And what infertility coverage in seattle message does that send about the weight the new government gives to 'continued progress on multilateral disarmament? No comment.

Bad news on the infertility coverage in seattle disarmament front. Today the new Defence Secretary Liam Fox said, ‘We have infertility coverage in seattle got a very clear agreement that we will continue with the nuclear deterrent. The Liberals have said they would like to look at what other alternatives in terms of cost of the nuclear deterrent will be. I will certainly want to scrutinise the cost of the Trident replacement programme. But the infertility coverage in seattle ultimate responsibility is to keep Britain safe and protect the generations of the future from whatever threats may emerge in a dangerous world.’ It is infertility coverage in seattle hard to read this as anything other than the LibDems abandoning the option of getting rid of Britain’s nuclear weapons, even though this infertility coverage in seattle had been one of the possible choices that they set out in their recent review. This appears to mean that the LibDems have accepted that Britain will have some form of nuclear weapons and will confine themselves to talking about different varieties and what is best value for money. Frankly, no infertility coverage in seattle money at all should be spent on weapons of mass destruction. And even if they were free we shouldn't have them. Continuing to infertility coverage in seattle be retain nuclear weapons and enter into a process of what is effectively rearmament, is making the world a more dangerous place by provoking proliferation. It also works counter to the current global trend against nuclear weapons and towards cuts in arsenals and recognition of nuclear weapons free zones. No doubt this infertility coverage in seattle step by the LibDems will be very upsetting for many of their members and voters. It is also very dangerous for Britain's future security. So another reason then infertility coverage in seattle to include Trident in the forthcoming newly renamed Strategic Security and Defence Review.

Reports on new government policy indicate that infertility coverage in seattle there will be a commitment to maintaining the so-called 'nuclear deterrent'. This is Tory policy unchanged. The sop to the LibDems is that infertility coverage in seattle they will be allowed to continue to make the case for alternatives. Well I suppose at least they have infertility coverage in seattle been granted freedom of speech. But it seems a pretty poor show to me given that the future of Trident was a real and controversial issue in the election cmapign. Nick Clegg rightly demanded that infertility coverage in seattle Trident should be included in the forthcoming Strategic Defence Review, so that the future of Britain's nuclear weapons and infertility coverage in seattle alternative options - including disarmament - can be considered. It is to be hoped that he has not renounced this infertility coverage in seattle basic common sense demand - so central to the LibDems' principles - in order to join the infertility coverage in seattle Conservatives in government. When considering drastic cuts to public spending, Trident must not be exempt. Maybe this infertility coverage in seattle does mean that they will indeed be able to make the case for alternatives during the Strategic Defence Review. Maybe I am making a negative reading of the report. So this needs to be clarified by the new government. We need Trident in the SDR, and we need to make that infertility coverage in seattle clear to Nick Clegg and David Cameron.

Amidst the infertility coverage in seattle confusion about who is going to run the country, it is a real pleasure to congratulate two of CND's leading activists for infertility coverage in seattle their outstanding electoral victories. Jeremy Corbyn, MP for Islington North, is a Vice-Chair of CND and infertility coverage in seattle Chair of Parliamentary CND. His majority has been increased by several thousands and I'm not surprised. Jeremy is infertility coverage in seattle totally principled, extremely hard-working and a thoroughly decent person. We will be working closely together over the next days and weeks to convene a new Parliamentary CND group. This is a cross-party grouping and we will use the data gathered in our election lobbying to identify and involve new anti-nuclear MPs. Caroline Lucas is infertility coverage in seattle a member of CND National Council and longstanding anti-nuclear and anti-war activist. She has won the Brighton Pavilion seat and is the Green Party's first Westminster MP. She is infertility coverage in seattle an exceptional politician and I look forward to working closely with her in Parliament. Working together in Parliamentary CND, she and Jeremy will be a political power-house, and whoever forms the next government will be under continual pressure on the key issues of peace and justice. Together with other anti-nuclear MPs from infertility coverage in seattle Labour, the LibDems, the SNP and Plaid Cymru, they will have much to challenge the new government on. There is the question of including Trident in the Strategic Defence Review, the timing of the so-called Initial Gate - moving to infertility coverage in seattle the next stage of the replacement process - and the urgency of debating this in parliament in the context of the outcomes of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference taking place at the moment in New York. I would like to infertility coverage in seattle thank everyone who has lobbied their candidates over the past few weeks. As a result we know that around a thousand of them opposed Trident. Now we will see how many of them will be our allies in parliament as we face these urgent tasks.

Nearly 1000 candidates from across the parties - and independents - have infertility coverage in seattle written in to confirm that, if elected, they would oppose Trident replacement in a House of Commons vote. Some seats have now become 'Trident marginals'.
Whilst parties including the infertility coverage in seattle Scottish National Party, Plaid Cymru, the Green Party and Respect express total opposition to nuclear weapons, the Liberal Democrats have consistently argued that they do not want a 'like-for-like' replacement for infertility coverage in seattle Trident and want to include Trident in the post-election Strategic Defence Review. But Labour and the Conservatives continue to say that they will replace Trident and will exclude it from the review.
But a more detailed look at local contests and individual responses shows opposition to infertility coverage in seattle Trident replacement to be more widespread than the manifestos suggest. Not only are many smaller parties and independent candidates opposed, but 130 Labour Party candidates have said they would vote against Trident replacement, leaving many seats where the majority of candidates are opposed.
In some 'Trident marginals' the infertility coverage in seattle candidates of both parties are opposed to Trident replacement, including where the Lib Dems took seats from Labour in 2005 such as Bristol West, Leeds North West and Manchester Withington and some Labour-held seats where the Lib Dems are challenging, including Edinburgh South, Hampstead and Kilburn and Islington South and infertility coverage in seattle Finsbury. In other contests where Labour candidates are in a close contest with the Greens (Brighton Pavilion), Respect (Birmingham Hall Green) and the SNP (Dundee East), the infertility coverage in seattle seat is an anti-nuclear competition with all candidates expressing their opposition to Trident replacement.
However some Labour candidates, who infertility coverage in seattle are vulnerable to the Lib Dems, have stuck with supporting Trident replacement, potentially putting them more at risk of losing their seat including Ministers Claire Ward in Watford and Phil Woolas in Oldham East and Saddleworth.
When you go to the polls tomorrow, please consider your candidates' views on Trident before you vote. After all, our future security is infertility coverage in seattle at stake - the only safe world is a world without nuclear weapons. Scrapping Trident is a key point on that road.

Around sixteen million signatures* were presented to the Chair of the NPT Review Conference in New York yesterday. Ambassador Libran N. Cabactulan of the infertility coverage in seattle Republic of the Philippines received a delegation from peace movements globally, who submitted petitions calling for a global ban on nuclear weapons. Dave Webb, on behalf of CND and other UK organisations, presented tens of thousands of 'No Trident replacement, yes to a Nuclear Weapons Convention' signatures, collected over the infertility coverage in seattle past months. Our thanks to everyone who has signed up. Dave said the following words on your behalf as he met Ambassador Cabactulan: 'Today I am infertility coverage in seattle proud to set before you tens of thousands of signatures from the British people, calling for the outlawing and abolition of nuclear weapons. These signatures are symbolic of the majority opinion of the British people, to secure not only the abolition of British nuclear weapons but of all nuclear weapons worldwide. For the infertility coverage in seattle people have concluded that not only are these weapons of mass destruction a drain on the resources of humankind, that each weapon and missile is an opportunity missed to feed, house and educate, but that to continue with these weapons makes the world a more dangerous place. As Kofi Annan rightly stated when infertility coverage in seattle he came to London for the 60th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations in 2005, while some countries say they need nuclear weapons for their security, others will come to the same conclusion. To continue to possess and maintain nuclear weapons will lead to proliferation, and the dangerous future that infertility coverage in seattle we most wish to avoid. Opinion polls in Britan show that infertility coverage in seattle those most opposed to nuclear weapons are young people, aged 18-24. We call on you today, to hear their voices, to meet the aspirations of this rising generation: to hand on to them in due course a safer world, a world free from the threat of nuclear annihilation. With your infertility coverage in seattle will, and your courage, and your commitment, this aspiration can become a reality.' *apologies for infertility coverage in seattle mistakenly putting seven million in an earlier version of this blog. That was the number from Japan alone.
Guest blog by Dawn Rothwell, CND Campaigns Officer at the infertility coverage in seattle NPT Review Conference in New York on the 4th May 2010 Nothing ventured, nothing gained
Many in the infertility coverage in seattle nuclear disarmament movement really work hard to create alliances and we gain a lot from that. Today, after our succesful CND meeting event yesterday afternoon, we on the CND delegation were able to relax (a little!) after the infertility coverage in seattle last few hectic days and let others do the organising and speeches. And that infertility coverage in seattle CND meeting, on the first day of the conference, was very popular and interesting. Of course I would say that, but after three hours of lively speeches and discussion it was generally felt that the we had all gained some very useful knowledge. The question posed was whether we could expect better from infertility coverage in seattle the nuclear weapon states? The speakers not surprisingly thought we could! Retired Commander Rob Green spoke about his personal experience (noted in his new book) of flying a infertility coverage in seattle nuclear capable bomber and then helicopter with nuclear depth bombs and how he was indoctrinated by the UK military establishment to believe nuclear 'deterrence' was a infertility coverage in seattle workable position, he later rejected this with certainty; Rebecca Johnson gave an insightful analysis of the previous day's high and infertility coverage in seattle lowlights from the conference floor and talked of the importance of negotiating a Nuclear Weapon Convention or instruments to that effect; Alan Mackinnon provided the vital Scottish perspective and the fact that over 70% of the people don't want Trident replacement; Judith Le Blanc gave us an infertility coverage in seattle analysis from the US peace movement of Obama's actions; Pierre Villard from infertility coverage in seattle the French peace movement told us how steadfast his government is on keeping nuclear weapons but how important the relationship between the French and UK peace movements was in shifting this; Niu Qiang spoke of the Chinese view and the importance of no first use of nuclear weapons; Tadaaki Kawata spoke about the infertility coverage in seattle Japanese people's strong and infertility coverage in seattle obvious opposition to nuclear weapons but also of the contradiction of Japan being under the US nuclear umbrella at the same time. So, how do the infertility coverage in seattle NGO-organised discussions compare to what is happening on the UN Conference floor? It's a infertility coverage in seattle bit of a sterile contrast. NGO representatives can never observe any of the actual nitty gritty of the discussions (which go on behind closed doors) but at least we do get to hear the delegate's statements. Today, the infertility coverage in seattle nuclear weapon states of France and China unfortunately ventured nothing much new. For China, missile defence creating insecurity should be abandoned, but nothing specific was said about any actual disarmament of their nuclear weapons or about any of the modernisations going on. For France 'non-proliferation' was everything and so-called 'disarmament' measures were listed but nothing was said, of course, of their brand new subs, longer range missiles and infertility coverage in seattle new warhead designs.
Of the infertility coverage in seattle non-nuclear weapon sites, the good news is that Germany mentioned its intention for the US nuclear weapons stationed there on behalf of NATO to be removed. Japan told the conference that the people of Nagasaki and Hiroshima were watching the NPT Review Conference keenly and nuclear weapons must never be used again. This must always be infertility coverage in seattle kept in mind and I really do hope an important shift forward for nuclear disarmament is gained by this conference.

Hillary Clinton today confirmed that infertility coverage in seattle guesstimates of the size of the US's nuclear arsenal have infertility coverage in seattle been almost exactly right. So much for official secrets! During her speech at the infertility coverage in seattle UN nuclear Non-Proliferation conference, Mrs Clinton announced that the US has 5,113 deployed nuclear weapons. The purpose of the announcement was to bring transparency into nuclear proceedings and help create a climate favourable to further steps on non-proliferation and disarmament. That's all well and infertility coverage in seattle good, and I hope it has the desired effect, but given that this amounts to the capacity to destroy all life on the planet many times over, something a infertility coverage in seattle bit more drastic is needed than telling people what they already know. And we musn't forget the infertility coverage in seattle 4,600 estimated to be in store. But I suppose it is a small step in the right dircetion. I keep on saying that about recent US initiatives, and the positive thing is that there are quite a lot of them - so I am hoping eventually they will all add up to infertility coverage in seattle something big. Mrs Clinton also included the infertility coverage in seattle normal commentary on Iran and North Korea. But more positive was her announcement that the US would ratify relevant protocols of the nuclear weapons free zones established in the South Pacific and Africa. Increasingly vast parts of the infertility coverage in seattle world are now covered by nuclear weapons free zones. It should be a lesson to us all. Interestingly, a infertility coverage in seattle head of steam is building up around a nuclear weapons free zone in the Middle East - long-required by UN resolutions. Progress on this would help break the logjam over Israeli nukes and - quite possibly - the vexed question of the Iranian nuclear programme. It is likely there will be infertility coverage in seattle more on this during the conference. Watch this space.

Guest blog by Ben Soffa Other CND people at the NPT are blogging on the following sites: Dave Webb and Sarah Cartin via Yorkshire CND Alan Mackinnon at Scottish CND Chris Wood at Ekklesia A big opening day, with Ban Ki-moon, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and infertility coverage in seattle Hillary Clinton all addressing delegates, along with other countries and blocs .
Many would doubtless like to infertility coverage in seattle tell the story of some sort of duel between Ahmadinejad and Clinton. But to reduce the NPT talks down to the demands made by a state with thousands of nuclear weapons on a state with zero nuclear weapons would be to let all other nations off the hook. Ahmadinejad provided plenty of material for infertility coverage in seattle those who want to cover his position as merely a string of denunciations of the West, but his repeated condemnation of the immorality nuclear weapons will no doubt receive less air-time. This position won’t hold much water with some, but should definitely be infertility coverage in seattle part of the mix when assessing Iranian intentions. Repeating the long-established line of Iran’s religious/political leadership Ahmadinejad told delegates “The nuclear bomb is infertility coverage in seattle a fire against humanity, rather than a weapon of defence. The possession of nuclear bombs is not a source of pride. Its possession is disgusting and shameful."
Whilst former CND members have infertility coverage in seattle almost certainly addressed the NPT (on behalf of the infertility coverage in seattle UK and more positively, on behalf of South Africa - one of the few states to have disarmed itself) the speech by Cathy Ashton on behalf of the EU was probably the infertility coverage in seattle first by a former officer of CND. Her speech had its good points - pushing for those not in the NPT (Israel, India and Pakistan, also North Korea) to infertility coverage in seattle join as non-nuclear weapons states and support for treaties against testing (the CTBT ) and bomb materials (FMCT ). The most direct role that infertility coverage in seattle the EU could play - ridding its member states of US bombs hosted through NATO was referenced, but only to infertility coverage in seattle encourage the US and Russians to negotiate them away. Sadly, there was little new which the EU brought to the table.
Clinton did announce some positive actions: releasing official warhead numbers for the first time and infertility coverage in seattle support for several nuclear weapon-free zones. The US clearly has a much better story to tell at this review than at previous ones, but although Clinton told delegates “we come here with a much larger agenda [than discussing Iran]” that infertility coverage in seattle was the clear focus of much of her statement. She correctly noted that it was the Middle East which “may present the greatest threat of proliferation” and infertility coverage in seattle pledged to support practical measures to bring about a nuclear-free zone there. Given Israel’s decades of intransigence - not even admitting its possession of nuclear weapons, only serious US pressure could really change this infertility coverage in seattle situation. That seems doubtful, even though Israeli nuclear weapons are the spur for others in the region to seek their own.
The New START reductions are an excellent first step - but they are infertility coverage in seattle just that - a beginning. We need the US to be bringing forward further serious proposals to boost the disarmament pillar of the NPT. They weren’t contained within this infertility coverage in seattle statement, but hope they will be introduced into negotiations over the next few weeks here.
