The Commons vote on replacing Trident on the 14th March 2007 showed the impact of an effective Parliamentary lobbying campaign by CND supporters. Despite the government winning the vote with Conservative support, it suffered its biggest rebellion on domestic policy since Labour came to power in 1997. Only the Iraq war rebellion has been greater.

Parliamentary CND is a cross-party group of MPs who regularly raise our campaigning priorities but need CND supporters to maintain pressure on their own MPs to ensure the nuclear weapons debate stays on top of their agenda.

CND needs its supporters to regularly contact their MPs, whether through emails or letters, attending local surgeries, or through stories in local newspapers.
Make sure your MP signs these Early Day Motions

An EDM is a short statement of facts, beliefs or opinion written by an MP asking the government to take a position on a matter of policy, practice or procedure. The more MPs sign an EDM, the more effective it is in attracting press interest and stimulating public opinion.

CND is currently urging MPs to sign the following EDMs but the more constituents that ask them to sign, the more likely it is that they will do so.

EDM 65: PARLIAMENT AND DECISIONS OVER US MISSILE DEFENCE
That this House recalls the statement by the former Prime Minister on 28th February with regard to the UK involvement in the US Missile Defence programme, that `I am sure that we will have the discussion in the House... When we have a proposition to put, we will come back and put it'; notes with concern that the Secretary of State for Defence made a written statement to this House one day before the summer recess, stating that at RAF Menwith Hill, `equipment will be installed and operated by the US Government to allow receipt of satellite warnings of potentially hostile missile launches'; regrets that the written statement does not reflect the spirit of the process that the former Prime Minister announced; and calls upon the Government to arrange a full debate to allow hon. Members to scrutinise in public the US Missile Defence deployment plans in the UK.

EDM 72: NUCLEAR WEAPONS CONVENTION
That this House notes the forthcoming 40th anniversary of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty; further notes the continued failure of the international community to abolish nuclear weapons or prevent their further proliferation; endorses the unanimous opinion of the International Court of Justice that there exists an obligation to pursue in good faith, and bring to a conclusion, negotiations leading to nuclear disarmament in all its aspects under strict and effective international control; further notes the recent 10th anniversary of the submission of a model nuclear weapons convention by Costa Rica to the United Nations for discussion; and calls upon the Government to work to achieve progress on multilateral negotiations with the aim of achieving implementation of a nuclear weapons convention by 2020.
