1.jpg A state fires an inter-continental ballistic missile at the USA. An Inter-continental ballistic missile is designed to fly long distances - thousands of miles. It goes through three main stages as it goes.
The boost phase - as it fires itself upwards with rockets
The Mid-Course phase as it travels in a ballistic (non-propelled) path outside the atmosphere in orbit
The terminal phase as it re-enters the atmosphere and nears its target.
